Lancaster County Election Official Addresses 'False and Misleading' Social Media Post

Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen has publicly condemned a viral social media video that falsely accused a voter of illegal activity. The video, posted by a member of a conspiracy theorist group, depicted a man on a skateboard returning his ballot and implied he was engaging in unlawful conduct.

In response, Commissioner Wiltgen stated that his office reviewed surveillance footage from the ballot drop box and confirmed the individual was a first-time voter casting his ballot legally. He emphasized that it is "shameful and un-American" to intimidate or threaten anyone for exercising their right to vote.

The video garnered over 1.5 million views on X (formerly Twitter), leading to safety concerns for the voter involved. The Election Commissioner's Office contacted the Lincoln Police Department, who reached out to the voter to ensure his safety. Wiltgen criticized the group for spreading false information and called on them to remove the video and issue an apology.

For further inquiries, residents can contact the Election Commissioner's Office at (402) 441-7311.
