As a teenager who struggled with acne for years, Sophia Shi felt increasingly insecure as she compared herself to the flawless faces seen on social media. The more beauty content she consumed, the more her confidence dwindled. However, after watching a revealing YouTube video, Sophia uncovered the truth behind the "perfect" images online. She began to embrace her own unique imperfections and appreciate her individuality. Now, as someone who has faced the false realities perpetuated by social media, Sophia is dedicated to exposing the hidden truths of influencers and helping others who have faced similar challenges.

At just 16, Sophia, a Vancouver student, aims to shed light on the deceptive nature of social media. She began her modeling career at 11, becoming the youngest model at Vancouver Fashion Week and has since walked in numerous runways and appeared in over ten publications, including British Vogue and Vogue China. Through her modeling experiences, Sophia strives to empower young women by challenging unrealistic beauty standards and advocating for genuine self-acceptance. This talk was delivered at a TEDx event, organized independently by the local community but following the TED conference format.
