Scrolling through social media might seem like a harmless daily habit, but is it really as benign as it appears? Social media expert Bailey Parnell argues that our increasing and unchecked obsession with these platforms can have significant long-term effects on our mental health. As social media becomes an integral part of our lives—a "digital layer" that we can't easily escape—Bailey emphasizes the importance of practicing safe social media habits before it's too late. In her talk, "Is Social Media Hurting Your Mental Health?" she explores common triggers, their impact over time, and how to foster a more positive online experience.

Bailey Parnell, recently named one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women, is an award-winning digital marketer, public speaker, and businesswoman. She excels at helping people craft compelling stories, with her expertise featured on CBC, CTV, and other local Toronto media. Bailey is the founder of SkillsCamp, a company focused on developing essential soft skills for professional success, and she also works in digital marketing at Ryerson University.

A sought-after public speaker, Bailey has addressed over 10,000 people on topics like social media, personal branding, and mental health. She began guest lecturing MBA classes at just 21 and has been the youngest speaker at several academic conferences. Currently pursuing a Master's in Communication and Culture with a focus on social media and mental health, Bailey holds an honours BA from the RTA School of Media at Ryerson.
